2010 was filled with so many new employment laws, regulations and court decisions, it has become difficult for employers to insure they remain in compliance.  This program will get you caught up on recent employment law developments and, more importantly – what they mean for your organization.

This year’s legal update will be presented by John M. Bagyi, Esq., SPHR who will address and provide practical guidance on –

  • New obligations, remedies and penalties under New York’s Wage Theft Prevention Act
  • Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act developments
  • Emerging social media concerns
  • Deductions from wages prohibited under Section 193
  • Funeral leave for same-sex committed partners
  • Enforcement and litigation trends
  • What’s on the horizon for 2011
  • And much, much more!

This program has been submitted for 2.0 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Dinner Program

After the legal update, enjoy cocktails, networking and dinner with your Human Resources colleagues.  After dinner, audience members will participate in an interactive game show to test their knowledge of employment and labor law and recent legal updates.  How many employment laws did Ron Burgundy break in Anchorman?  Is Jim Halpert’s commission cap legal?  Did George Constanza have to be paid when he did nothing with the Penske file?  Come and find out!  Presented by attorneys Sanjeeve DeSoyza, Sarah Delaney Vero, Michael Billok and Nicholas Fusco from Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC.

This program has been submitted for 1.0 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Human Resource Association Supports Unemployed Members with Voucher System

As this economy continues to slow and many of our colleagues are losing jobs, it is critical for local professionals to continue networking to maintain connections and seek new job opportunities. One local professional chapter is helping its unemployed members to maintain their professional connections without any additional financial hardship. The Capital Region Human Resource Association (CRHRA) has established a confidential Voucher System to assist members in career transition with their job search and development. To ensure that members can continue to connect with their colleagues, CRHRA offers an opportunity for active members who are currently unemployed to continue attending up to two meetings (per year) at no cost to them The average cost per meeting is $30. The CRHRA Workforce Readiness Committee and Board of Directors hope this program will help unemployed members with critical networking opportunities important for a successful job search, especially during challenging economic times. For information about CRHRA, call 463-8687 or visit www.crhra.org.
